Đói khóc, no cười

Chỉ thói đời hoặc tâm lý con người thay đổi theo hoàn cảnh lợi hại trước mắt: thiếu thốn thì than vãn, được thỏa mãn thì vui vẻ. Thường dùng để nói sự vui buồn, thái độ ứng xử phụ thuộc vào tình trạng no đói hay điều kiện sống.

It refers to how people’s feelings or behavior change with immediate circumstances: when in need they complain, and when satisfied they are cheerful. It is used to comment on attitudes that depend on one’s material condition or present advantage.
