Chỉ kinh nghiệm chọn nơi nương tựa hoặc tìm kiếm lợi ích: việc lớn, lâu dài thì phải nhìn xa để tìm chỗ dựa vững; việc trước mắt, thiết thực thì nên tìm ngay ở gần. Thường dùng để khuyên người ta xử sự linh hoạt, biết tính xa nhưng cũng biết tận dụng điều kiện sẵn có.

This proverb expresses the idea that for major or long-term matters, one should look far afield for strong support or advantage, while for immediate practical needs, one should look close at hand. It is used to advise flexible, realistic judgment: think ahead, but also make use of what is readily available.
