Chỉ thân phận người con gái trong quan niệm cũ thường bị người khác dòm ngó, trêu ghẹo hoặc lợi dụng, như hoa nở ra để người ta hái. Thường dùng để than thân, ngậm ngùi về sự thiệt thòi và lệ thuộc của phụ nữ; cách nói có thêm “người ta” nhấn mạnh tính chung chung, ai cũng có thể nhòm ngó.
