đoản hậu

đoản hậu is a rare, old-fashioned Vietnamese adjective tied to family lineage: its main sense describes someone, traditionally a man, as having no sons to continue the family line. That meaning carries an older cultural view, so it is a word you are more likely to recognize in historical, literary, or culturally specific contexts than use in everyday conversation. But there is a twist: in some regional speech, đoản hậu can also meanunfaithful” or “inconstant,” a sense that may not be understood everywhere. The lesson looks at how to tell these uses apart, when safer modern words are better, and why context matters. Watch the full lesson to learn how to recognize it naturally.
