không
không is one of the first Vietnamese words learners meet, usually as “not” or “no.” It negates verbs, adjectives, or whole statements, and it can also appear in questions with the sense of “or not.” But không does more than simply make a sentence negative. It can point to absence in không có, show up as zero or nothing, and even mean empty or bare in phrases like tay không and chân không. The full lesson walks through these roles and a few useful patterns, so you can recognize không more naturally when you hear it. Watch the full lesson to see how it works in context.
